Bomb explodes in market ahead of Eid al-Adha, 30 people die and 50 are injured

JAKARTA — A bomb explodes in the middle of a market in Baghdad, Iraq, Monday (7/19/2021). The bomb explosion ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1442 H was reported to have killed at least 30 people.

Quoted from detikcom which launched AFP on Tuesday (20/7/2021), the explosion was suspected to be a suicide bombing. Previously, the market was said to be crowded, filled with buyers buying food ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

In addition to the victims who died, 50 other people were reportedly injured in the explosion. According to medical sources, eight women and seven children were among the dead, saying the death toll was between 28 and 30.

“About 50 people were also injured in the blast,” the medic said.

Iraqi President Barham Salih said the bombing was a heinous crime. He also expressed his condolences.

“They targeted our civilians in Sadr City on the eve of Eid,” Salih said in a message on Twitter.

“They don’t allow people to rejoice, even for a moment.”
