Status: 03/12/2023 10:11 a.m
An aircraft bomb weighing more than 200 kilograms was discovered during a ground inspection in Hemmingstedt (Dithmarschen district) on Friday. The A23 and the B5 have to be temporarily closed today to defuse the situation.
Since shortly after 10 a.m., the A23 has been completely closed from Albersdorf heading north, from Heide-West heading south and at the Heide-Süd junction. The B5 thoroughfare will also be closed during the work. A diversion via Lieth is planned for Heide.
The actual defusing should then begin at 11 a.m. and last no more than an hour. The dud from World War II was located in a field near the pump house north of the refinery in Hemmingstedt (Dithmarschen district), according to the Itzehoe police department (Steinburg district). Originally it was said that the bomb should be rendered harmless a week later, on March 19th. As the police NDR.de confirmed on Saturday evening, the defusing is already taking place today.
13 homes affected
Affected residents were informed in advance, according to the police. Fire brigade and police forces ensure that the affected addresses are checked and that residents are evacuated if necessary. However, only a few people are affected in the immediate vicinity. According to the police control center, residents of 13 residential buildings have to leave their homes.
It is already the second bomb find in one week in Schleswig-Holstein. Experts only confirmed a dud under a daycare center in Schwentinental in the Plön district on Wednesday.
