Bomb bursts between Joep and Caroline during MAFS couples weekend

The seven couples of MAFS got married, had their honeymoon, lived together and now they are going to see each other again for the first time. It seems to be going well with four couples, but unfortunately there is also suffering within the experiment. For example, Kim and Antoine are going through “a difficult phase” and recently took some time out so Kim could sort out her feelings. At the end of the couples weekend, they make another attempt at reconciliation. “I think it was good for a while, that distance”, Kim tells her story. “It has also lifted a weight off my shoulders, I must say (…) I think it’s good what we did and I’m glad everyone agreed.”

Antoine also indicates that he has enjoyed not feeling the pressure of the cameras. Although he is happy to see his wife again, married Antoine tells the camera that he has not missed Kim in recent days. “That spark that should be there seems a bit extinguished, or at least burning very slightly,” he admits. “I won’t say it’s completely gone, but a pilot light…”

Although Kim and Antoine come to Noordwijk together for the couples weekend, Joep arrives alone. “I have stated very clearly how I stand and that it will not change in love either. So I hope she sees it that way too and that she has no hope that it might change because of this weekend or outings together. .”

When all the couples get together moments later and are instructed to grade their marriage, Caroline breaks down, who gives their marriage a 2. “I don’t think that, as you say, you really gave it a chance,” she says in her side of the story in tears. “We haven’t even actually done living together.”

Because of all the tensions, they do not sleep in each other’s room during the weekend, and that while Caroline still finds her husband attractive. “I think he’s a really nice boy and I do have feelings towards him. When I see him now, I see him having fun with others, something also tickles and then I think: you’re nice. For me it would certainly still be able to change if something changes with him or if he is open to it.”

That chance seems small, but Joep still gives mixed signals. So does the rest of the group. “I understand your point somewhere, on the other hand I see it differently than you see or experience it”, he defends himself when Kim and Birgitte confront him about this. “If that door were completely closed, none of us would have been here. But the way it is now – the situation just – it doesn’t get any better. Nor if she uses you as a kind of mouthpiece. Then if you’re the 26-year-old woman you say you are, come to me.”

Married at First Sight is broadcast every Tuesday at 8.30 pm on RTL 4. Or watch the episode ahead at Videoland.
