Bolsonaro plans to appoint the attorney general of Brazil, André Mendonça, judge of the Supreme

MADRID, 7 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has indicated during a meeting with the ministers of his Government that he intends to appoint the attorney general, André Mendonça, judge of the country’s Supreme Court.

Although his name has not been officially announced, an adviser to Bolsonaro has confirmed the information in statements to the G1 news portal. His appointment will have to occur before judge Marco Aurelio Mello retires on July 12.

Mendonça is one of the main names being considered for the position since Bolsonaro has insisted that he wants to appoint someone “terribly religious.” Mendonça is a Presbyterian pastor and is considered an ally of Bolsonaro.

In addition, it has a good reputation among the members of the court, although the Senate may show reluctance in this regard and in Brazil it is precisely the senators who will have to debate and approve said appointment.
