Bolsonaro fined again for not wearing a face mask | Abroad

The governor of the state of São Paulo, João Doria, is one of the current president’s rivals and a possible opponent in the 2022 elections. During a speech in Ibirapuera Park, Bolsonaro, who downplayed the corona virus from the start, once again spoke out against the use of mouth caps and other corona measures.

Three weeks ago, Bolsonaro took part in a motorcycle tour of the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro without mouth and nose protection and gave a speech to his supporters.

Two days earlier, the government of Maranhão state had fined Bolsonaro because the right-wing populist president did not wear a mask during a meeting in the village of Açailândia. The governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino, is a member of the Brazilian Communist Party.

With almost 17.3 million registered infections, Brazil has the third highest number in the world, after the United States and India. In terms of death toll, Brazil is the second hardest hit country in the world, after the United States, with more than 484,000 deaths.
