Bolsonaro announces return to Brazil in March

The ex-president announces that he wants to lead the opposition. And: defend yourself against the accusations of being responsible for the riots in Brasilia.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has announced that he will return to his home country in March. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, he said he wanted to lead the political opposition in Brazil. He also wants to defend himself against allegations that he is said to have incited anti-democratic protests. Bolsonaro flew to Florida two days before the end of his term on January 1.

The right-wing politician lost the presidential election against the leftist Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva. Bolsonaro’s supporters later stormed Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace, demanding a military coup. The Supreme Court approved an investigation into whether Bolsonaro instigated the anti-democracy protests.
