Lucas Bols, producer of spirits such as Pisang Ambon, Coebergh and Bokma, is acquired by the Schiedam distillery family Nolet. More than two-thirds of Lucas Bols shareholders have accepted the offer that Nolet made for its competitor, the two industry peers announced.
The acquisition brings a number of the best-known Dutch spirits brands under one group. Nolet was founded in 1691 in Schiedam. The family group is best known for its gin brand Ketel 1, but generates a significant part of its turnover from Ketel One Vodka. Founded in Amsterdam in 1575, Bols is the oldest producer of spirits in the world.
Nolet already owned about 30 percent of the shares when it made a bid in October last year to fully acquire listed Lucas Bols. At 18 euros per share, Nolet offered almost double the then value. Nolet is paying more than 112 million euros for the 6.2 million shares that have been offered.
