Bologna’s Eighth Consecutive Useful Result vs Frosinone: Match Recap

One-two in three minutes and Frosinone down. Thiago Motta’s Bologna continues its growth path by achieving the eighth consecutive useful result and completing the overtaking operation on Frosinone, thanks to the goals of Ferguson and captain De Silvestri, which put the match down between the 19th minute and the 1st minute. 22 of the first half. In the second half the guests closed the gap with a penalty from Soulè, but in the end the 2-1 was worth the three points for Thiago Motta’s team. All this after a start in which Di Francesco’s team tried to take control of the match, wasting a possible opportunity for the lead with Oyono. Bologna, on the other hand, grows at distance and when they pass the halfway line they create repeated dangers: Freuler warms up Turati in the 12th minute and seven minutes later Ferguson wins the ball and goes to conclude the action which passes through Orsolini, Zirkzee, Freuler and Saelemaekers , whose cross shot becomes an assist for Ferguson’s incursion. Bologna took the lead with the Scot’s second goal of the season and the first assist from the former Milan player, his first as a starter. Motta’s band doesn’t stop: three minutes later they take advantage of Turati’s mistake, who alone in the area clears a cross from Lykogiannis towards the center of the field: De Silvestri arrives running and diving, with his head, from outside the area, scores by taking advantage of the goalkeeper still on the ground.

On the half-hour mark, Orsolini came close to scoring a hat-trick, following a pass from Aebischer, beating Marchizza: but Turati put the right-footed shot into the corner at the near post. Frosinone is in the corner and tries to react, but Skorupski is good three times on Cheddira and Mazzitelli, who neutralizes central conclusions and above all a free kick directed into the top corner from the edge of Di Francesco’s midfielder. However, in the second half the script of the match changed. Bologna manages by relying on a defensive phase that has returned from four goalless matches in the last five, and there are a couple of heavy errors from Calafiori and Lykogiannis: on the first lost ball, Mazzitelli comes close to the top corner, on the Greek’s second the Cuni-Beukema contact which Doveri punishes with a penalty after VAR review: Soulè coolly scores, displacing Skorupski. And then the game starts. Frosinone, with the introductions of Baez and Cuni in place of Cheddira and Garritano, changes gear and claims another penalty for contact between Freuler and Okoli in the 67th minute, unbalancing the attack. Bologna responds with the counterattack De Silvestri, Ferguson, Orsolini, with the number 7 sending the conclusion out, not seeing Saelemaekers in the centre. Thiago also runs for cover, introducing Kristiansen and Ndoye to rebalance his team, who return to shooting with the Dane and Zirkzee before the half hour mark, finding the thread of the match again. Saelemaekers came close to making it 3-1 with a free kick from the edge of the box, but Frosinone had now returned to the game and believed in it, with Marchizza shooting high from a corner. In the final the teams stretch: Zirkzee launches Ndoye on the counterattack, but Turati says no to the diagonal left-footed player. The rossoblù do not close out the match and Frosinone hopes until the end, without however finding the spark, with Marchizza devouring a shot from the melee in the area and Mazzitelli receiving a red card for a double yellow card on Zirkzee. Thanks to the victory, Bologna thus faces the medium-high areas of the table.

Salernitana-Cagliari 2-2, everything happens in the last 15′

Incredible at Arechi: Salernitana and Cagliari share the stakes (2-2) at the end of an endless match but which only offers goals and emotions in the last fifteen minutes of the game. Inzaghi, for his first time on the Arechi bench, turned Salernitana upside down, switching to 4-3-2-1 and deploying several new players in the starting eleven. In goal Costil replaces Ochoa; in defense we see Fazio next to Gyomber, in midfield Maggiore plays point guard between Coulibaly and Kastanos and in front Candreva and Cabral position themselves behind Dia. Cagliari responds with the 4-3-1-2 with Mancosu supporting the Luvumbo-Oristanio pair. The start of the match gives us hope for Arechi’s 16 thousand: Salernitana puts everything into the ‘garra’ and in the first minutes tries to exploit above all the external lanes. The problem, however, is always in the penalty area where the Granata are unable to break through and Scuffet remains idle for the entire first 45 minutes. Cagliari, on the other hand, plays a cunning game, trying to attack Salernitana’s defense which trembles in a couple of circumstances. At 16′ Luvumbo controls a good ball between Gyomber and Fazio who give him time to kick but Costil is attentive.

Ten minutes later the Angolan, launched into the net by Mancosu, beats Fazio and Mazzocchi and beats Costil but his starting position was irregular. Once the danger has escaped, Salernitana manages to reorganize itself but without ever becoming dangerous. Thus we go to half-time with the two teams at 0-0. In the second half Ranieri immediately made a double substitution, introducing Viola and Zappa. Inzaghi responds with Martegani and Stewart. But the match remained blocked until the half hour mark when Cagliari found the break. Martegani cuts the field diagonally with the ball, Jankto steals the ball and launches Luvumbo who enters the area and beats Costil. The goal wakes up Salernitana who equalizes in the 41st minute with Dia, served in the area by Ikwuemesi. A minute later, however, Cagliari found the overtaking goal: Shomurodov crossed for Viola who, all alone, headed the ball past Costil. But in injury time Salernitana found the episode that avoided the knockout: contact in the area between Viola and Legowski, the VAR saw a touch from the Sardinian midfielder, which Cagliari contested vigorously, and conceded the penalty. Dia beats Scuffet from the spot. At the Arechi it ends 2-2: Cagliari remains last, Salernitana catches Empoli one point higher, for a draw that makes everyone unhappy.
