Bollywood actor Prabhakar Sharan will make 5 films in Panama

PANAMA (AP) — Bollywood filmmaker and actor Prabhakar Sharan has signed an agreement to shoot five films in Panama.

Within the framework of the inauguration of Expocomer, the largest trade fair in Central America, held after two years of absence due to the pandemic, Sharan announced that the first film of the agreement will be “Borders Without Life: The Immigration Files.” The film portrays migrant life in Latin American countries and will show the difficulties of crossing any border in illegal situations.

It will start shooting in May, said Sharan, who will act and direct the film.

The filmmaker said the other four films would start shooting in the following months. The agreement would be “the first step” so that “thousands of movies can be filmed here in Panama,” he said.

The agreement was signed between Sharan, representative of the company Pacific Investment Panama Corporation, with offices in Panama, Costa Rica and India, and the businesswoman Dolly Kaur of the firm Eros International and Eros STX Global Corporation Limited.

“We are very excited about the signing of this agreement that will allow us to produce the first five Bollywood films in this country. The studies and evaluations that we have carried out in Panama and the region allow us to predict a great success with this important project that we are signing today”, Kaur highlighted.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the head of the National Directorate of Commerce, of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Panama. “It is a sample of all the potential that Panama has… we trust that it will be the beginning of a great cinematographic project”, said Yuealy Singh.

Sharan, who has lived in Costa Rica for more than a decade, stressed that with this agreement, Bollywood, as the Indian film industry is popularly known, will continue to expand its presence in the region and “we will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge, cultures and the great natural landscapes, conducive to good cinema for the whole family”.
