The Vice Minister of Internal Affairs and Police, Jhonny Aguilera, reported yesterday that four senior executives of Banco Fassil were apprehended while being investigated for alleged financial crimes, given that, among other irregularities, they authorized a loan of at least one million dollars to a young woman. 18 years old who did not have the corresponding solvency.
The arrested are Juan Ricardo Mertens Olmos, Hernan Suarez Vaca Diez, Jorge Aturo Chavez Vargas and Hermes Hugo Saucedo Camacho.
“The authorities that are in charge of controlling the granting of credits (at Banco Fassil) have acted maliciously,” said Aguilera.
The Vice Minister pointed out that the investigation found that bank executives authorized a loan to María NBSA, an 18-year-old girl, on December 23, 2021. To date, the young woman had accessed more than 9 million Bolivians in credit, despite because her ability to pay limited her to a credit of 60,700 bolivianos.
“During four opportunities, this person requests the authorities of Banco Fassil to extend the overdraft of this loan and manages to withdraw from this financial institution the sum of close to one million dollars, that is, 9,735,688 bolivianos,” Aguilera explained.
The Santa Cruz departmental prosecutor, Roger Mariaca, reported that the four executives will be charged and preventive detention will be requested.
