2.4 billion euros for investments in federal schools

Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP), Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and Minister of Education Heinz Faßmann (VP) presented Schep, the school development program for federal schools, on Wednesday. Schep is endowed with 2.42 billion euros and includes 270 construction projects over the next ten years. Upper Austria tops the list with almost 60 projects and an investment volume of 250 million euros.

Federal schools are to be built, rebuilt and renovated, says Kurz. Among other things, this is intended to boost the construction industry. Where additional schools are built depends on the demographic development that has been incorporated into SCHEP, says Faßmann. To boost the construction industry, construction projects can also be preferred, says Kogler. However, SCHEP also includes financial resources for the digitization of federal schools, said Faßmann in the press foyer after the Council of Ministers. The full press releases:

Plans for new buildings in Vienna, Linz and Graz

New school building programs are presented approximately every ten years. They should take into account the expected population development in the individual districts. For example, new school buildings are built wherever population growth has occurred or is expected. Accordingly, the new plan includes new building plans, especially in Vienna, Linz and Graz, as well as in the bacon belt around the federal capital.

In Upper Austria, two new AHS long forms are being created in the Linz area (without specific location – one south, one west of Linz) and one upper secondary school in Linz (without specific location in the north of Linz) or in Steyr.

New HTL for Upper Austria

A new HTL is also planned in either the Linz area, Wels or Steyr. Where exactly the locations are to be built will only be determined. On behalf of LH deputy Christine Haberlander, a project group will be installed in the directorate of education that will deal with student electricity analyzes and other planning details.

At the same time, however, the principle of “expansion before founding or building a new building” applies – which means that primarily existing locations should be expanded. “If possible, new training content should be integrated into existing locations and should not cause new schools to be founded,” the plan says.

No further increase in AHS rates

It is also stated that there should be no further increase in the AHS quotas – i.e. the percentage of those pupils who switch to the AHS after elementary school. “The expansion of locations of the AHS long form or the establishment of a new AHS long form will in future be tied to the prerequisite that the school attendance rate in the region remains unchanged and the increase in pupils or class numbers only to one demographic pupil -More attributable. “

The new SCHEP builds on its predecessor program from 2008 – around 90 percent (2.1 billion euros) of the then approved budget of around 2.3 billion euros has been realized so far. 198 projects have been completed, 16 projects are under construction.
