La Verde achieved an important away victory against Chile (2-1), at the Julio Martinez Prádanos Stadium on Matchday 8 of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bolivia ended a 31-year drought without a visiting win thanks to two quick counterattacks that were finished off by forwards Carmelo Algarañaz and Miguel Terceros in the 13th minute and 45+1′, thanks to two passes from winger Roberto Fernández.
Forward Eduardo Vargas equalized in the 39th minute, but was unable to overcome another defeat for La Roja, which is unable to lift its head.
Chile came out strong in the second half, but as the minutes passed they began to get desperate. Bolivia dedicated itself to protecting the victory and managed to reach the play-off zone in seventh place, with nine points.

- This is Bolivia’s first away win in 31 years in the South American Qualifiers (D9 L58). The last time they had managed a victory away from home was a 7-1 against Venezuela in 1993. In addition, it is the first time they have beaten Chile in that country in the Qualifiers.
- Roberto Fernández is the first Bolivian player since 2011 to provide two assists in the same match in the South American Qualifiers.
- Eduardo Vargas scored his 11th goal in the qualifiers with Chile and ties Humberto Suazo for fifth place in the ranking of goals for La Roja in the tournament, behind only Arturo Vidal (17), Iván Zamorano (17), Marcelo Salas (18) and Alexis Sánchez (20).
- Bolivia has achieved consecutive victories in the South American Qualifiers for the first time since August 2021, when it defeated Peru and Paraguay, while in this sequence it did so against Venezuela and Chile.
- Miguel Terceros has scored consecutive goals in the South American Qualifiers, in the win over Venezuela and against Chile. In the previous 15 matches with the Bolivian national team, he had scored just once.
