SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Forward Matt Boldy has signed a seven-year, $49 million contract extension with the Minnesota Wild, the organization’s general manager Bill Guerin announced Monday.
The 21-year-old American has scored 12 goals and 17 assists in 42 games so far this season with the Wild.
Boldy could have become a restricted free agent next summer. The Wild rewarded him before he reached the 100 NHL game mark.
The six-foot-two, 201-pound player has 27 goals and 41 assists in 89 career NHL games. He had scored a goal for the Wild in the playoffs last spring.
Boldy was selected in the first round, 12th overall, by the Wild in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Boldy is the latest young forward in the running to monetize his performance during his rookie contract, following Tage Thompson (Buffalo Sabres), Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils) and Jason Robertson (Dallas Stars).
The Wild will visit the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
