The PSP this Monday detailed police actions carried out at Sporting-Benfica in roller hockey, a game that had some incidents, referring to the identification of 10 people and two detained due to disturbances. The police also say that the incidents will be “reported to the competent authorities”.
Here is the statement in 8 points:
«The PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command, through the 3rd Division, policed the Roller Hockey Playoff game (game 5), between Sporting Clube de Portugal and Sport Lisboa e Benfica, held yesterday, at 18:30, at the João Rocha Pavilion, classified as a high risk game. During this operation, the following should be noted:
1. In view of inappropriate behavior towards the players and the refereeing team, repeated during the game and in order to prevent aggression and possible interruptions of the game, there was a need to remove some of the
SCP supporters who were behind the substitute benches.
2. Near the end of the game, this group of supporters started to move towards the Police and push the sleeve of the technical area, having been necessary to increase the security area by moving the supporters away from that place, thus creating security conditions for the Police themselves and for the departure of the players and the refereeing team, at a later time.
3. Two people were detained, one for insulting the Police and the other for resistance and coercion when a strip that camouflaged the pyrotechnics on the bench was removed. In this case, there was a need for police intervention in that area to carry out the arrest and guarantee the security of the Police officers involved as a large group of supporters tried to prevent the arrest, the removal of the tag and the detainee.
4. Were removed from the pavilion and identified 9 SCP supporters and 1 SLB supporter for inappropriate behavior.
5. After the end of the game the SLB supporters were escorted outside without any incident being reported.
6. During the entire period of policing, no injuries were reported as a result of interventions during the game.
7. The PSP will participate and communicate to the competent authorities the behaviors verified during the game.
8. The PSP calls for civic behavior in a sports environment on the part of the fans, and that they avoid attitudes and actions of violence or that encourage conflicts and alteration of public order, situations in which the PSP will not hesitate to intervene to guarantee the safety of all stakeholders and the normal course of the sporting event.”
