Bojana Slavkova, the creator of the eco art installations “Embraced Nature” and “Your Changes”, will place her new installation “Form of Freedom” in the International Youth Center.
Its opening is on May 9 at 18:00 at 14 Apostol Voivoda Street.
“Form of Freedom” is an immersive art installation, representing a 3D collage of hanging objects, collected during the numerous travels of the artist Bojana Slavkova, who toured 17 European countries within 3 years.
The objects, which include herbariums, maps, a bicycle lock, form a map of a fictional country created from various pieces of the many European countries.
The audience is encouraged to walk among the objects, smell and touch them. Also, at the opening, anyone interested can bring an object related to their journey to be included in the art installation.
“A Form of Freedom” is inspired by Bojana’s personal experiences, she shares “I realize how privileged I am to have traveled so much in my short life and that my parents at my age did not have the same opportunities at all.”
With her creation, she wants to create a reflection around the topic of freedom, especially freedom of movement and expression these days, to ask the questions “Who gives us these freedoms?” Can they be taken away from us? How do we store them?’
The project is part of the Pop the Vote! Culture on the Ballot by Culture Action Europe, co-funded by the European Parliament. The program was created to engage European citizens, especially the young generation, with the values of democracy and to spread information about the opportunity to vote in the European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024.
You will be able to see “Freedom Shape” until June 9. Come to its official opening on May 9, Europe Day, at 6 p.m. at the International Youth Center.
