Boiling advice for drinking water in the Apeldoorn region

Drinking water company Vitens has issued a boiling advice for residents of the municipality of Apeldoorn and parts of the municipalities of Epe, Voorst, Brummen, Ermelo and Barneveld. This means that everyone in these areas must first boil tap water used for consumption, such as drinking or preparing meals, for three minutes. The advice remains in force for the time being. Vitens expects to be able to provide an update on the cooking advice on Monday, October 14. Vitens.nl contains a (postal code) overview with all addresses to which the advice applies.

Slight contamination found

During a regular inspection at the location on Amersfoortseweg in Apeldoorn, Vitens found minor contamination. Although the risk is small, Vitens does not take any risks with public health and is therefore obliged to issue this cooking advice.

Boil drinking water for 3 minutes

The boiling advice applies to water used for: drinking, making coffee or tea, making lemonade, brushing teeth, rinsing mouth and preparing meals. By boiling the drinking water from the tap for 3 minutes, the water is safe to drink.

Water used for showering, bathing, washing hands or flushing the toilet does not need to be boiled.

Cause of cooking advice

Vitens is currently investigating the cause of the light contamination. And in the meantime, it ensures that water continues to flow from the tap for all customers in this region. Because the drinking water supply on the Amersfoortseweg in Apeldoorn remains operational, the research is proceeding step by step. The boil advice will therefore remain in force until October 14. Vitens does everything it can to keep this period as short as possible, because of the impact on its customers.

Update

Vitens understands that this advice causes inconvenience, but puts the health of all its customers first. That is why Vitens also provides boiling advice for mild contamination. Vitens will inform its customers again about the status of the cooking advice no later than Monday, October 14. In the meantime, Vitens shares information about the steps taken via the website.

Customers are informed via SMS or email. Vitens calls on everyone to also share this message with neighbors and others in the area, as not everyone can be reached via these channels.

More information, including an overview of the postcode areas where the advice applies, can be found on the Vitens website: https://www.vitens.nl/Over-Vitens/Pers-en-Nieuws/Nieuws/Kookadvies-Apeldoorn-en-omgeving.
