The Brno kometa hockey team suffered a disheartening 3-1 loss to Litvínov on Friday night, marking their seventh defeat in the last eight games and their first scoreless outing of the season. The atmosphere at the ”Rondo” arena was thick with disappointment as fans chanted ”Humble out!” in the third period, reflecting the teamS recent struggles.
This loss echoed a similar scenario from march, when both Kometa and Verva were eliminated in the quarterfinals. However, this time, the Kaše brothers, Ondřej and David, played pivotal roles in Litvínov’s victory.
“We were better in the first period, but their goalkeeper kept them in the game. They basically scored from a single breakaway situation.Litvínov has quality, and David Kaše capitalized on his opportunity,” acknowledged Kometa coach, Pokorný.”We pushed hard, but everything seemed to be against us in this match. We couldn’t help ourselves with goals,” he added.
After a promising start to the season, Kometa’s momentum seems to have stalled following the international break. The team is struggling to score from isolated plays, their power play is ineffective, and a single goal against them frequently enough proves demoralizing.
“We had enough chances. If we had scored a goal, the game could have been different. I don’t want to make excuses, we simply lost. It’s a cliché,but we need to put this behind us and prepare for Sunday’s match against Sparta,” said Pokorný,looking ahead to the 26th round of the league.
“Humble out!” echoed through the arena, a stark reminder of the challenges facing Kometa as they strive to regain their winning form.
The Kometa Brno hockey team is facing a deep crisis after a recent loss, leaving players and fans searching for answers. Veteran forward Jakub Flek expressed the team’s frustration, stating, “We pushed everything uphill, everything was against us in this match.”
When asked about the root of the team’s struggles,Flek admitted,”If I knew,I’d tell you. We keep showing something on video… I don’t want to say that it doesn’t lead to anything. We have to except it as it is indeed, we could have taken over the reins of the match several times,” he added.
A missed penalty shot opportunity in the second period proved costly for Brno. With the score at 0-1,Adam Zbořil,the team’s usual penalty shot specialist, failed to convert. The Comet soon found themselves shorthanded again, and their opponents capitalized on the power play.
“We need to prepare for Sunday’s game with Sparta,” flek said, looking ahead.
“The coach determines who goes. Corps (Adam Zboril, editor’s note) he drives excellently and has a high success rate this year, so he drove. Unluckily, it didn’t work out for him, but we absolutely don’t blame him. Then we had to swallow a bitter price when the opponent used a power play some nine seconds before the end. Unfortunately, that is the beauty and cruelty of our sport,” Flek reflected.
On a positive note, the return of injured players Pospíšil and Holland provided a boost to the lineup. “Pospa could be felt. The guys were doing well before he got injured and our line-up fell apart a bit. He’s a player we really need on the ice,” Flek noted.
Flek also highlighted the impressive performance of Simon Zajíček, the team’s young goaltender who recently earned more playing time. “The fact that I catch more now is the decision of the coaches, they give both of us a chance. I am of course happy that I got more time in goal now, but last year it was the other way around. Now I’m concentrating on Sunday’s match and I’ll want to…”
The Kometa Brno hockey team suffered a tough loss against HC Dynamo Pardubice, leaving coach Václav Varaďa feeling disappointed. Despite a valiant effort, Kometa fell short, with Varaďa lamenting, ”Everything was against us.”
The coach acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating, “We didn’t play well, and we made too many mistakes.” He expressed his frustration with the team’s performance, especially in the first period.
Despite the loss, Varaďa remains optimistic about the team’s future. He highlighted the upcoming match against Sparta Prague as a chance for redemption, saying, “We have to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. We’re looking forward to the challenge against Sparta.”
Meanwhile,Kometa forward Tomáš Zajíček expressed his disappointment with the result but emphasized the importance of moving forward. “It’s a tough loss, but we have to keep our heads up,” he said. “We’ll analyze the game and try to improve for next time. I’m sure we’ll enjoy it as much as possible in the replay.”
## Kometa in Crisis: An Interview with Veteran Forward Jakub Flek
**World Today News** sat down with Kometa Brno forward Jakub flek following the team’s demoralising 3-1 loss to Litvínov,a game marked by chants of “Humble out!” from frustrated fans.
**WTN**: Jakub, the atmosphere in “Rondo” tonight was heavy. How does the team process a loss like this, especially with the recent string of disappointing results?
**Flek**: It’s tough, there’s no sugarcoating it. We pushed everything uphill tonight; everything seemed to be against us. We had chances, but we couldn’t convert them. It’s frustrating, especially when you see the disappointment in the fans’ faces.
**WTN**: Seven losses in the last eight games aren’t what anyone expected after Kometa’s strong start. What do you see as the root cause of this slump?
**Flek**: If I knew, I’d tell you! We keep seeing things on video, indications of where we need to improve. I don’t want to say it doesn’t lead to anything, but it’s clear we need to accept the situation as it is indeed. We could have taken control of the match several times tonight, but we didn’t.
**WTN**: The missed penalty shot in the second period felt like a turning point. How did that affect the team’s momentum?
**Flek**: It was definitely a key moment. Adam Zbořil is usually so reliable in those situations, but these things happen. Unfortunately, it led to us being shorthanded again, and Litvínov capitalized on the power play. That was a tough blow.
**WTN**: Looking ahead, what needs to change for Kometa to regain its winning ways?
**Flek**: we need to prepare for Sunday’s game with sparta like it’s the most important game of the season. We need to focus on our strengths, play with more confidence, and find a way to start converting our chances.
**WTN**: Do you think the team needs a shakeup? Some fans are calling for coaching changes.
**Flek**: We need to look in the mirror as players first. We’ve got to take obligation for our performance on the ice. Changes happen in hockey, but we need to focus on what we can control.
**WTN**: Thank you for yoru time, Jakub.
The kometa faithful remain hopeful that the team can turn things around, but the pressure is undoubtedly mounting. Only time will tell if they can weather this storm.
