Böhringer gives up NFL dream

Five years after his draft in the NFL, football player Moritz Böhringer has given up his dream of jumping into the US professional league. The 27-year-old is returning to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns from the German Football League (GFL) for the new season (All information about the GFL).

“I want to finish my studies in Germany now,” said Böhringer, but in the long term he sees his future in the United States: “My plan is to live in the USA after my studies.”

Up to 15 GFL games in the 2021 season live on free TV on SPORT1

Böhringer was drafted in 2016 as the world’s first non-American without college experience. The Minnesota Vikings selected the wide receiver as the 180th player. Böhringer did not make it into the club’s 53 roster, in 2017 he moved to the Cincinnati Bengals and was retrained to the tight end. He didn’t make a breakthrough there either.

In the 2015 season, Böhringer played for Schwäbisch Hall before moving to the USA. “So far, I’ve had the most fun with football with the Unicorns,” said the returnees. He wanted to “give back the experience I have gained in recent years” and “of course win a German Bowl”.
