Bohemians Football Club: Fans, Stadium, and Hopes for Renovation

After all, over 12,000 fans crammed into the Letná asylum in retaliation. Despite the fact that only the most foolish optimists probably believed in catching up the three-goal deficit from Bodö, almost the entire stadium dressed in green and white. And the atmosphere? She was absolutely electrifying. It must have been felt by those who live near the Prague Sparta stand, or random passers-by.

Not to mention the main actors of the match right on the pitch. “The winner of the double match is our fans,” agreed coach Jaroslav Veselý and winger Jan Matoušek. “For what they showed on the trip to Norway, how they approached it during and after the home game,” added the 45-year-old coach. “They were incredible. They took it as a reward for their loyalty that we got to Europe, and they really enjoyed it. Bohemka has excellent fans, not fans of success. They went, even though earlier it was about saving,” Matoušek added.

But if the Klokans want to be included in the wider top of the Czech football pond for a longer period of time, and next time (whatever that may be) follow the example of Slovácko to fight their way up to the basic group of the Conference League, the opportunity to host their opponents in their own stadium would be extremely useful for them. After all, who knows if Sparta would meet them even in the case of promotion via Bodö, which could mean that three games will be played in Letná, including any league duels, in a short time sequence…

Bohemians footballers thank the fans after the match of the 2nd preliminary round of the Conference League.

“If we wanted to build something as a club, it would require much larger investments. Both to the width of the staff and to the infrastructure. We can’t always play in a borrowed stadium,” said Veselý aptly.

In order for the aging Ďolíček to see the desired renovation, however, official approval would have to begin, as the stadium operates under the administration of the Capital City of Prague. “It is one of the symbols of Czech sports in general. I will definitely support the announcement of an architectural competition and the subsequent reconstruction of the stadium,” Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda claimed before the last election. But as you know, words are sometimes very far from action in the political world, and the process has not progressed much over the past year.

According to the latest statement by Petar Hlaváček, the mayor’s deputy, the ice should finally move significantly during the fall. So football fans can only hope that this will actually happen. Because as it turned out (not only) in the fight with Bodö, the Bohemians fans hide a huge potential and the possible new Ďolíček with a slightly larger capacity of the stands, judging by the visit to Letná, could easily fill it.

At least in the duels with Prague S. And for example, the cup journey after 36 years, even though it ended with the first opponent, will convince the municipality to finally start solving the much-needed and promised renovation more intensively.
