Customers of the bankrupt Bohemia Energy and other companies now have a problem. The so-called supplier of last resort (DPI) will supply them with gas and electricity, but prices may not be the best. It is the search for a new supplier with an affordable price that now employs thousands of people.
Mr. Jindřich Martínek from České Budějovice is one of the clients of the bankrupt company Bohemia Energy. He lives with his partner in an apartment with an area of 60 square meters. “I pay 1990 crowns a month, which means 23 880 crowns a year,” described Mr. Martínek, who uses electricity not only for cooking, but also for water heating and space heating. “At the moment, I’m worried that the services will really be many times more expensive,” he fears.
Mr. Karel Plánička is also looking for a new supplier, who tried to find out on the Internet the price he would pay for a new provider. “I also received a draft contract. It’s basically three to four times more expensive than the current situation,” the man described.
However, the suppliers point out that they still create price lists for the clients of bankrupt companies, which they will take over as suppliers of last resort for a maximum of six months. Even so, people will pay more than before.
“Customers have to reckon with the fact that they will pay extra, because we did not expect them,” explained CEZ Group spokesman Roman Gazdík. “We do not have energy purchased on the stock exchange in advance, so the price of the supplier of last resort depends on the price on the stock exchange. “It is important that clients wait. We will send them a letter where they will find out what to do. Now it is important that they wait,” added Innogy spokeswoman Linda Filusz.

According to economists, the price of energy can be expected to fall in the coming months. Experts therefore recommend that people use DPI for the time being and start looking for a new supplier after the New Year.
