Faced with the marches and blockades that have been taking place today in Bogotá, which affect the mobility of the city, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday that it was suspending care at the points of vaccination against covid-19 and taking PCR samples. The suspension of these services is only for the rest of the day, when the mobilizations in the city are expected to continue.

The announcement was made by the mayor Claudia Lopez during the visit to the vaccination point at the Central Hospital of the National Police. “There is no way to ensure that people who work can get to work, or that people who need the service (vaccination and tests) can get there,” said the president.
According to López, acts of vandalism have affected the mass transportation system by 40 percent and he recalled that this service is used by the “most humble” Bogota citizens and that they are the ones most affected by the excesses and attacks on the TransMilenio and SITP fleet.
“40 percent of a public good, like water, like energy, on which the most humble citizens depend. 40 percent of our system is destroyed ”, he reiterated.
After regretting that the decision had to be made, the Secretary of Health, Alejandro Gómez, indicated that it is only in the afternoon of Wednesday and, he reiterated, because “the current conditions do not allow to continue with the full day.” He added that vaccination against the covid “is the door of hope that opens to us after such a hard year” due to the pandemic.

It should be remembered that Bogotá is the city in the country that has made the most progress in vaccination. With cut-off at 5 pm on May 4, a total of 1,095,548 doses had been applied.
Gómez also said that home care for patients was suspended and requested respect for the medical mission, and denounced that on Tuesday the ambulances had not been able to “leave or arrive” to attend to emergencies.
