Bogotá Purple Line: Free 24/7 Support for Women Experiencing Gender Violence

The Bogotá Purple Line is free, it operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. It is attended by a team of psychologists, social workers, lawyers and nurses from the District Secretariat for Women, who provide guidance in case there are doubts about what to do in the event of events related to gender violence, but it is NOT an emergency line, therefore Therefore, if the life or integrity of a woman is at risk, 123 should be called to properly report the incident.

The Purple Line is aimed at women over 18 years of age who identify that they are experiencing a situation of violence within Bogotá. There the professionals tell them how to report or what to do.

In the event that a person wants to make a complaint, they must do so with the Attorney General’s Office or with the Police, since the Women’s Secretariat has no jurisdiction to receive complaints.

Also, citizens who are aware of a situation of violence can communicate to know how to alert the competent authorities, but it is important to be clear that it is NOT an emergency line, nor a reporting line.

  • Guidance and information on the rights of women victims of violence, the mechanisms and routes to make them effective, the services available for their comprehensive care and protection, as well as the entities in charge of providing said services.

The types of cases it supports are:

  • Guidance in cases of violence against women that occur in public and/or private spaces.
  • Situations that generate health problems, associated with violence against women.
  • Information on the institutional offer (District and Nation) for the guarantee of women’s human rights.
  • Information on the right to health, with emphasis on sexual rights and reproductive rights (contraception methods and voluntary termination of pregnancy).
