The Secretary of Health de Bogotá has awarded 19 health institutions that improve the quality of patient care and that have participated in the implementation of the quality improvement path “Doing things well leads to good things” with the results of the first cohort of the year 2022.
This Path began its development in May 2022, incorporating as beneficiaries a group of public and private IPSs that have received technical assistance in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the support of 8 accredited IPSs from the capital district, called Tutors.
The work of IPS has been prioritized in health services where they have identified opportunities for improvement.

The main aspects taken into consideration for the award were:
- Increasing the culture of reporting safety incidents, reducing adverse events in drug management;
- Improving opportunities in healthcare;
- Strengthening in assertive communication;
- The decrease in the presentation of pressure ulcers and the number of falls in hospitalized patients;
- The increase in informed consent signatures;
- The decrease in the number of complaints related to the admissions process;
- Quality improvement processes in clinical history completion and involve outsourced services in institutional improvement process.
Alejandro Gómez, district health secretary, said that “to achieve quality we must all work together, we cannot leave any institution behind, we do not want any institution to have a level of quality that puts the life or safety of the patient at risk. “
Marcela Díaz, Deputy Director of Quality and Safety in Services of the Ministry of Health, said that “each of the 19 IPSs that have adopted the improvement mechanism has achieved its objectives and has brought benefits to the health services of Bogotá”.
In 2021, the Quality Sub-Directorate implemented the strategy “Doing things well leads to good things”, in which its efforts were concentrated on establishing the phases of the Quality Improvement Path, generating a first proposal for review, validation and execution.
