Bogor City Health Office asks residents to be aware of measles transmission – ANTARA News Mataram

Bogor City (ANTARA) – The Bogor City Health Office, West Java, has asked health service facilities, namely the public health center (Puskesmas) and 22 hospitals in the area to be aware of measles transmission.

This is related to the occurrence of outbreaks (KLB) of measles in Bogor and West Bandung Regencies. Head of the Bogor City Health Service Sri Nowo Retno in Bogor City, Saturday, said vigilance was being exercised by strengthening measles surveillance performance through local area monitoring (PWS), implementing health promotion on
PD3I in children and fulfillment of complete basic immunization status in the region.

“This step is an anticipatory step. In the city of Bogor there were no consecutive cases, so it was not declared an outbreak. However, caution must be exercised considering that measles is a contagious disease,” said Retno.

The Bogor City Health Office, said Retno, also appealed to the public to immediately complete complete basic immunization status as a form of protection against various types of diseases that can be prevented by immunization (PD3I) and apply clean and healthy living habits and consume food with balanced nutrition.

Furthermore, the community needs to recognize the typical symptoms of measles, visit health care facilities (fasyankes) for treatment and carry out isolation so that the chain of transmission can be stopped immediately.

Retno explained that measles, also known as morbili or measles, is a highly contagious (infectious) disease caused by a morbilivirus. Typical signs that can be recognized as measles are body heat usually >38°C and red spots (rash) that start behind the ears for 3 days or more, a few days later (4-7 days) spread throughout the body. In some cases accompanied by one or more symptoms of cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes.

The measles virus is transmitted through droplets that come out of the nose, mouth or throat of people infected with the measles virus when they talk, cough, sneeze or through nasal secretions. The incubation period for measles is 7-18 days, an average of 10 days.

Warning signs of measles that need to be watched out for are dehydration, rapid breathing, chest wall concavity, unable to eat and drink, difficulty waking up, less urination (BAK), discharge from the ear, and yellow green pus/liquid in the eye.

Most people with measles will recover without treatment. Complications often occur in children under 5 years of age and adults over 20 years. Cases of measles in cases of malnutrition and deficiency of vitamin A and immune deficiency (HIV) can cause more severe complications of measles.

Deaths from measles are generally caused by complications such as bronchpneumonia, severe diarrhea and malnutrition and delayed treatment. One form of management of measles cases apart from symptomatic treatment is the administration of high doses of vitamin A according to age by following the provisions stipulated in the management guidelines for rubella measles cases.

Measles will affect almost 100 percent of children who are not immune to the virus. Fulfillment of complete basic immunization status is a way of prevention and control because measles is an Immunization Preventable Disease. Measles itself is included in the disease that has the potential to outbreaks / outbreaks.
