The BoerBurgerBeweging will present the prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Deventer on Friday. Party leader Caroline van der Plas had previously indicated that she does not see herself as a potential Prime Minister, because she does not see herself operating on the international stage.

She wants to put forward someone who has at least “international experience”, she told De Telegraaf earlier. The candidate will also be second on the list of candidates, and will therefore become a Member of Parliament if the premiership passes the BBB.
A name that is circulating in the corridors is Mona Keijzer, former party prominent of the CDA. Keijzer broke with her party a few weeks ago, reportedly because she disagreed with a possible nomination of Hubert Bruls as party leader. But that turned out not to be the case, and sources therefore doubt Keijzer’s reason for leaving.
Another name mentioned is Aalt Dijkhuizen, former chairman of the board of Wageningen University. In 2021, Van der Plas suggested that Dijkhuizen should become Minister of Agriculture.
BBB would now not have to deliver a prime minister in polls
At the moment it does not look as if the BBB will actually be able to deliver a prime minister. In a poll by I&O Research, Van der Plas’ party gets 13 seats. The poll is led by Pieter Omtzigt’s new party (31 seats) and the PvdA-GroenLinks combination (28 seats). This is followed by the VVD with 22 virtual seats.
The BBB was the big winner in the recent Provincial Council elections. Then the party suddenly became the largest in all provinces.
