Boeing’s NASA rocket has yet to reach its target

NEW YORK NASA conducts trials of a Boeing exploratory rocket. During the test, the four rocket core engines turned on for the first time Saturday (16/1/2021), but the duration was not as long as expected.

At a test facility at NASA’s Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, the Space Launch System (SLS) core engine ignited at 4:27 p.m. local time for just over a minute. Yet the engineer’s expected target is four minutes, so that the rocket can be launched in November.

The engine test was the final stage of by’s “Green Run” test campaign NASA which has been going on for a year. It was an important step for NASA and Boeing, which designed the SLS, before debuting unmanned rocket launches later this year under NASA’s Artemis program. The program is the administration of US President Donald Trump’s administration to return US astronauts to the moon by 2024.

It is not clear whether Boeing and NASA have to repeat that trial. If that happens, the rocket launch debut could be postponed until 2022.

Reuters reported in October that President-elect Joe Biden’s space advisers aimed to delay Trump’s proposed 2024 target. This raises a question mark about the long-term fate of SLS, especially since Space X and Blue Origin have also begun to enliven the competition for large-capacity rockets.

Launching from its official page, this historic experiment will record sound when entering and landing on Mars. However, scientists predict the resulting sound will not be the same as on Earth. This is because the difference in sound is due to the temperature, density and composition of the atmosphere on the Red Planet.
