Boeing resumes production of 737 Max

Despite the start-up ban for 737 Max aircraft, the stricken US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has resumed production of its crisis jet. Production initially started at a “low” level and will continue to ramp up during the year, Boeing said. More than a dozen occupational safety and product quality initiatives would be implemented at its main facility in Renton, near Seattle.

Boeing had production of the aircraft type in January until further notice exposed. Previously, 737 Max models had been produced for stockpiles for months, which could not be delivered due to the flight bans. However, it is still unclear when the problem flyers may take off again. The decision lies with the international supervisory authorities. Boeing hopes for a quick re-registration, but the corona crisis could delay the process even further.

In March 2019, after two crashes within a few months in which a total of 346 people died, startups were banned worldwide for the 737 Max. As a result, Boeing came into a serious crisis, which was last due to the corona pandemic further tightened.

The group is struggling with billions of euros in special costs and reacted with cuts in production and a big job cut on the problems. The number of employees worldwide, from around 160,000 recently, is to be reduced by around ten percent.
