Boeing earlypublishedIt will allow all its aircraft to operate on 100% sustainable fuel by 2030, and stated that this is “the safest and most effective way to reduce the aviation industry’s carbon emissions” in the next few decades. This will also help the aviation industry as a whole to reduce its carbon emissions by half by 2050.

Sustainable fuels refer to fuels made from vegetable oil, animal oil, a variety of agricultural and forestry wastes, and non-recyclable household waste. They are basically made by converting carbon dioxide in the air, so it will not be discharged into the air Increase the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Boeing has successfully used a FedEx 777 aircraft in 2018 to successfully test the operation of 100% sustainable fuel. However, currently limited by regulations, the aviation industry can only use half of the petrochemical and half of the sustainable mixed fuel. Boeing (and other aircraft manufacturers, airlines) must try to convince the relevant units that the use of sustainable fuel is safe to achieve their goals.

At present, the aviation industry accounts for about 2% of the total global carbon emissions, while in the transportation sector it accounts for as much as 12%. Generally speaking, the service life of an aircraft is at least about 20 years. Therefore, the aircraft manufactured in 2030 will still be serving customers by 2050. If the goal of reducing carbon emissions is set in 2050, then it is true that airplanes shipped from 2030 must be able to use 100% sustainable fuel.
