American defense contractor Boeing is preparing to complete production of CH-47F Block I Chinook helicopters. The company received a contract for the last batch.
What is known
The latest batch of CH-47F Block I consists of 19 helicopters. 18 units will fly to the Republic of Korea and only one aircraft will be delivered to Spain. The amount of the agreement was $793 million. Deliveries will be completed by 2027.
After the contract is completed, Boeing will be able to focus on the production of Block II helicopters. They are distinguished by increased altitude and flight range, improved transmission and updated fuel tanks.
The CH-47F Block I Chinook continues to be an outstanding helicopter capable of transporting heavy loads. This was stated by Heather McBryan, Vice President and Program Manager H-47 Boeing Vertical Lift.
Boeing now has contracts with the US Army, US Special Operations Forces and UK Special Operations Forces. They will receive 6, 36 and 14 helicopters respectively. The company’s press release notes that the Special Operations Forces have been operating the CH-47F Block I Chinook for several years, while the Army will receive the first helicopter early next year.
