– The plane began to sink and dragged one injured person under water. The Coast Guard crew managed to hoist this person. The other was rescued by one of the crews who swam and pulled the person aboard the rescue ship.
According to the local news site Hawaiinewsnow the incident is said to have happened about 20 km from Kalaeloa airport.
The incident happened a little before two o’clock local time. It was Transair 810 from Honolulu to Maui that reported engine trouble, and tried to get back to Honolulu. It informs US aviation authorities.
– We have lost one engine and we return directly to the airport, one pilot managed to report to the tower.
– There is a danger that we will lose the other engine as well, it is very hot and we lose speed.
The pilot also managed to say that one had to notify the Coast Guard before it became quiet for the person in the tower who received the emergency call.
– It looks like they went into the water, says the person in the tower.
The Coast Guard was quickly in place and reported on what they saw, and they were able to locate the two people.
The incident is now being investigated by the American Accident Investigation Board NTSB, ten investigators are being sent to the crash site.
According to AP, the Boeing aircraft was 46 years old and of the 737-200 model, which is no longer used as a passenger aircraft.
The Boeing share has already started to sink after news of the incident, according to The Street.
