Tragedy Strikes: Body of Missing 13-Year-Old Madeline Soto Found in Wooded Area After 5-Day Search; Boyfriend Suspected in Homicide Case
It has been a heart-wrenching week for the community of Saint Cloud, Florida, as the body of 13-year-old Madeline Soto has been discovered in a wooded area after a five-day search. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the devastating news, leaving friends, family, and the entire town in shock.
The search for Maddie began on Monday morning when she was last seen. Her disappearance prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, who tirelessly scoured the area for any sign of the young girl. The multi-agency effort involved the St. Cloud police, Kissimmee police, and both the Orange County and Osceola County Sheriff’s Offices.
On Friday afternoon, there was a breakthrough in the case as Maddie’s body was found off Hickory Tree Road in Osceola County. During a press conference, authorities revealed that she was wearing clothing similar to what she was last seen in. This tragic update came after Orange County Sheriff John Mina expressed confidence that Maddie had been killed, allegedly by her mother’s boyfriend, Stephan Sterns.
Sterns quickly became the prime suspect in this horrifying homicide case. He was last seen in the vicinity of where Maddie’s body was discovered, between 1 and 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Authorities believe he was changing a flat tire on his silver Lincoln MKZ at the time. Detectives are currently investigating whether he moved Maddie’s body in the early morning hours before discarding items in a dumpster at a Kissimmee apartment complex.
Disturbing video evidence shows Sterns disposing of what was later identified as Maddie’s backpack and school-issued laptop. This damning footage led to his arrest on unrelated charges of sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse material. Although he has not spoken about his alleged involvement in Maddie’s case, authorities are considering additional charges against Sterns.
As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on seeking justice for Maddie and bringing closure to her grieving loved ones. The Kissimmee Police Department has taken the lead in this now-homicide investigation. They are working closely with Maddie’s mother, Jenn Soto, who is not currently considered a suspect.
The loss of a young life is always a tragic event, but it is especially devastating when it occurs under such circumstances. The community of Saint Cloud is coming together to support one another during this difficult time. The memory of Madeline Soto will forever be cherished, and her story serves as a reminder to prioritize the safety and well-being of our children.
In the wake of this tragedy, it is essential to remain vigilant and look out for one another. The search for justice continues, and the hope is that Maddie’s family will find some solace in knowing that those responsible will be held accountable. As the community mourns the loss of a young life, may Maddie’s memory be a guiding light in the pursuit of a safer world for all children.
