NEW YORK — A body was found in a burning vehicle in the driveway of a Long Island home Tuesday night as authorities responded to a report of a fire, officials say.
Both the Riverhead Police and Fire Department received calls about a vehicle fire at a single-family home on Sebastian Drive in Baiting Hollow around 10:30 p.m.
Once they got there, they found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames and a wall of the house also on fire. A dumpster was near the property.
The body was found in the vehicle after the flames were out.
The Riverhead Detective Division and the Suffolk County Police Arson Unit were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Authorities have not released any further information about the body. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death and identity.
