Body found in barrel on Malibu beach
A corpse encased in a barrel was found Monday on the famous Malibu beach according to the police, just in front of the world famous surf break which borders this city of California.

Maintenance workers in this upscale municipality discovered the body of a man inside a barrel of about 200 liters, according to local media. An investigation has been opened, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The identity of the deceased and the cause of his death have not been revealed.
The barrel had been spotted on Sunday evening by municipal employees, while it was floating in the water of the lagoon backed by the main beach of the city, according to the ABC7 channel. Aerial footage from local channel KTLA shows the closed barrel sitting upright in the shallow waters of the lagoon, a few hundred yards from Malibu’s famous pier.
Located at the gates of Los Angeles on an idyllic stretch of coast, Malibu has countless villas perched on mountains that flow into the ocean. The beauty of the place has made it a haunt of celebrities: Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and “Friends” actress Courteney Cox own luxurious mansions here.
The city is also known for its beach and its waves breaking for several hundred meters, right next to the wooden pier. It was behind this spit of sand, frequented daily by dozens of surfers, that the body was found.
The method used for this homicide evokes practices usually associated with criminal organizations. Last year, skeletal remains were found in a barrel near Las Vegas, exposed by the drying up of Lake Mead. Underworld experts then largely attributed this incident to the actions of the mafia that dominated the city in the 1970s and 1980s.
