Bad surprise for Tesla driver Matt in New Jersey, USA: After an accident, he was initially given partial blame, then he received a hefty repair bill from the workshop.

The accident, reported by the insideevs.com, is likely to happen every day in many places: Two vehicles change lanes at the same time and collide sideways. Matt’s accident happened at a multi-lane toll booth. Luckily, both vehicles were moving slowly when entering the checkpoint. So the Tesla got into a tailspin, but it remained a fender bender. However, it should cost Matt dearly.

The five-digit invoice follows the partial liability decision

The course of the accident can be followed in a video at Wham Baam Teslacam on YouTube, because Matt’s Tesla Model 3 recorded the entire process with its cameras. The video material was also available to the police authorities, who had to deal with the question of guilt. Their result: Although the driver of the van involved in the accident had not signaled the lane change, no single culprit can be determined. The two drivers are each given 50 percent responsibility.

For Matt, this decision must have been a disappointment. But the real trouble was yet to come – with the seven-page bill for the repair costs incurred. The total damage to the Tesla was therefore more than 30,000 US dollars.

This amount must have been a shock not only for Matt. Most laypeople who see the pictures of the damage would hardly have expected repair costs of this magnitude.

Tesla cams can contribute to enlightenment

In the YouTube video, Matt’s case is just one of several. Wham Baam Teslacam uses the opportunity to draw attention to the potential of the Tesla cams. In many cases, without the recorded material, it would not have been possible to reconstruct how the accident happened and identify the culprit.

Although Matt ultimately ended up sharing the blame, it can still be counted as a success. The driver of the van initially blamed Matt for the crash. In view of the pictures, however, this representation did not last.
