Police made a startling discovery while trying to help a man who dropped the boxes when he tried to put them in a downtown vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday (3/11/2020).

The 39-year-old man named Eduardo R. was immediately arrested at the scene and later identified as a suspected member of the criminal organization Union Tepito.
The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday (4/11/2020) confirmed that the body parts found in the box belonged to two missing boys, namely Alan Yair Silvestre Becerril (12 years) and Hector Efrain Tolentino de Jesus (14 years).
Forensic tests showed that the two boys had been tortured and mutilated.

Sheinbaum described the incident as “gruesome” and “never seen such a case”.
The killing of the two boys he said could be attributed to drugs.
Both Sheinbaum and her predecessors have been harshly criticized for failing to stop Mexico City’s notorious drug trafficking or even acknowledging the level of organized crime in the Mexican capital.

Tolentino de Jesus’ family said they suspected the child that he had started selling drugs to pay for his school.
Juan Martín Pérez, head of the Network for Rights Child, told the newspapers The Spanish Country, that drug gangs in and around Mexico City are known to recruit children.
The two boys, from the indigenous Mazahua community, were last seen on October 27.

Although concerned relatives reported the boy as missing, the authorities did not issue a warning until 2 days later.
The disappearances of the two children are still under investigation, with local media giving different accounts of their recent whereabouts.
The prosecutor’s office said the boy was last seen on Eje Central road, which connects the city center to the south.
