Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo face each other this Sunday at the Bombonera, from 2:30 p.m. for matchday 11 of the 2024 Professional League, in a match in which both teams need to score three points, although knowing that during the week they have international cup commitments and for that reason, both coaches could use alternative formations. The match, which is one of the most attractive and high-tension classics in Argentine football, is directed by Pablo Echavarría and can be followed live on television through TNT Sports. The minute by minute will be available in canchallena.com.
Both Boca and San Lorenzo are immersed in the need to get points in the local tournament, where they do not have good collective performances. The xeneize is 14th as a result of having achieved only 14 points in 10 games, while the Cyclone is even worse: 25th (among 28 teams), with seven units.

However, the DT’s Diego Martínez and Leandro ‘Pipi’ Romagnoli would choose to save the best pieces of each for next week, in which they will play international cups. Boedo’s team travels to Belo Horizonte to face Atlético Mineiro in the second leg of the round of 16 of the Libertadores (after a 1-1 draw at home), a tough match in which they will have to offer more than 100% performance to have a chance of winning the series. Boca, meanwhile, will be playing on Thursday, also in Brazil, but against Cruzeiro in the second leg of the same round but of the Sudamericana and after winning 1-0 this Thursday at the Bombonera.

The last time Boca and San Lorenzo faced each other was on March 30, in the frame of date 12 of the 2024 Professional League Cup. The xeneize took the victory 2-1 thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani (42′) and Miguel Merentiel (84′); Adam Bareiro opened the scoring with a penalty (9′).
The classic between the xeneize and the Ciclón is one of the matches with the greatest history. A rivalry that has always existed. And with this particularity: San Lorenzo is the only team in Argentine football that has a three-match advantage over Boca in terms of history, between amateur and professional teams.
Statistics show that Boca and San Lorenzo have met 212 times, with 77 wins for the xeneize, 83 victories for the Ciclón and 52 draws. The team from Ribera had a favourable balance until the 40s, when the Cuervo’s supremacy was consolidated. In the 70s, 80s and 90s, Boca managed to reduce that advantage, but San Lorenzo recovered it in the 2000s, which consolidates it as one of the four Argentine clubs with a favourable balance in duels against Boca, the only one currently playing in the First Division. The others are Gimnasia, San Martín and Independiente Rivadavia, all from Mendoza.
