Boca Juniors midfielder Guillermo “Pol” Fernández suffered a high sprain of his right ankle and will miss the Superclásico with River Plate, on Sunday the 25th, for the seventh date of the Professional Football League Cup (LPF), and also the duel this Sunday against Lanús.
Fernández, praised in recent days by president Juan Román Riquelme, left the field with a muscle discomfort 33 minutes into the second half last Wednesday against Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero, when coach Diego Martínez decided to replace him with Jabes Saralegui .
The concern continued in training last Thursday because the midfielder could not train and was barely walking, so they decided to do the corresponding medical tests and with the results the club finally confirmed the injury and the severity: “high sprain of the right ankle” .
In fact, since his lateral ligaments are compromised, which pass above the ankle – hence the name “high” – and join the tibia to the fibula, it will require a longer recovery time that was not specified in the document. In principle, Fernández’s rehabilitation will take between seven and eight weeks, although it would also avoid a possible operation.
Precisely, just a few days ago after the victory over the Santiago team (2-0) in La Bombonera, Riquelme said: “I am very happy because Pol is being Boca’s best player in this championship. He is the most intelligent player we have.”
