Bobo-Dioulasso: Journalists and CSOs at the school of judicial information

A training session for the benefit of journalists and CSOs on criminal actions and the dissemination of judicial and criminal legal information opened on May 23, 2023. The session was held from May 23 to 25, 2023 at the Hotel Haidara under the presidency of Roger-André Zougrouana, prosecutor of Faso at the TGI of Bobo.

Civil society organizations and journalists make a considerable contribution to the fight against crime, to efforts to respect human rights in legal proceedings and to raising the awareness of litigants on access to justice. In this vein, they are essential partners in the dissemination of judicial and criminal legal information. This is why the consultation framework of the actors of the criminal chain of Bobo-Dioulasso, with the support of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), decided to equip around twenty journalists and CSOs from the city of Bobo-Dioulasso on criminal actions and the dissemination of judicial and criminal legal information. This training took place under the chairmanship of the prosecutor of Faso at the TGI of Bobo, Roger-Andrer Zougrouana. For him, “Journalists and CSOs quickly share information on social networks. It is therefore necessary that they be supported through training sessions”. “We invite participants to carefully follow the modules that will be provided in order to better inform litigants and the entire population on judicial and criminal legal issues”, suggested the prosecutor.

According to Urban Kiswend-Aids Yaméogo, head of IDLO, “Our goal is to build the capacity of journalists and CSOs on judicial information. Also, we want to promote a culture of justice”.

During the three days, Pierre Ouédraogo, first deputy of the Prosecutor of Faso near the TGI of Bobo and Parfait Sandiwidi, deputy of the prosecutor of Faso near the TGI of Fada N’Gourma, communicated on the modules such as the judicial organization of the Burkina; the different stages of criminal proceedings; the requirements and limits of the dissemination of judicial information and the contribution of CSOs/journalists in judicial monitoring and the dissemination of judicial and criminal legal information.
