Bobo courthouse: it was hunger that led me into this story of theft

DM was born on April 28, 2005 in N’Dorola, capital of the rural commune of N’Dorola, in the province of Kénédougou, Hauts-Bassins region. He is a worker by profession, homeless, single with no children. He finds himself before the judges of the Bobo-Dioulasso criminal court on Friday January 12, 2024 for a case of theft of electrical wires. At the bar, the defendant admits the facts with which he is accused. On the stand, he admits to having actually stolen. Thus, the latter recounts the facts before the judges: “It was a Wednesday, I climbed the garage wall. I didn’t even know the owner of said garage. Before stealing, I lay down at the bottom of a car, because the guard’s daughter who was present at the scene suspected something. After successfully completing this step, I cut the camera wire. Subsequently, I removed the air conditioning wire. Honestly, it was hunger that led me into this theft thing, because we should unload our goods. Unfortunately, this was not done. I no longer had any money on me to pay for food.”
After the judgment, the court sentenced DM to a prison sentence of 24 months including 12 months in prison and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs, suspended.
