After the incidents that occurred on December 9 at the République college in Bobigny, the establishment was marked by a new strike movement on Tuesday. On Friday, members of the educational team wished to exercise their right of withdrawal after a violent altercation that occurred Thursday between a plastic arts teacher and four students.
That morning, three 5th grade students and a 4th grade student hanging out loudly in a hallway were reprimanded by a teacher. According to staff testimonies, the four young people then complained to school life before returning to the site to do battle with the teacher. The school life team then intervened to calm the situation. The teacher, who had to lock himself in his room to protect himself, was placed under arrest until school holidays.
“We want the four of them to come before a disciplinary board”
Friday, the staff had wanted to exercise their right of withdrawal, regretting that the four students were able to return to class normally on Thursday afternoon. “The right of withdrawal having been refused by the academic management, a majority of staff – teachers and school life – went on strike on Monday,” describes a teacher from this establishment classified as a reinforced priority education network. This Tuesday, the movement was renewed by employees of the school life. “Only a sanction was taken against one of the four students who had insulted the principal during the altercation. We want the four of them to go before a disciplinary board. We cannot accept such behavior in a college in the Republic, ”blows a member of school life.
This Wednesday, a rally is to be held in front of the Departmental Services Directorate for National Education in Bobigny. “We hope to have an audience with the academic director to obtain the hiring of a senior additional education advisor, because we are not able to do our job properly with the current staff,” continues the person in school life. The team also wants a REP + bonus to be awarded to educational assistants (AED). “Currently, it is limited to teachers and daycare centers. However, the AED are the first interlocutors of the students, they are often the ones who suffer the most violence, ”she describes.
For its part, the academic direction recalls that one of the four students “has already been sanctioned”. For the other three, “the procedure is in progress and falls within the competence of the establishment”, she specifies, adding that the granting of REP + bonuses to AED does not fall under her “prerogative”. She also mentions that “the distribution of CPE positions will be part of the preparation work for the next school year”.
