Bobby Kotick will reportedly give up when Microsoft takes over …

Tuesday’s announcement of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard mentioned nothing about whether or not Bobby Kotick will continue as head of the company. Now, however, it looks like he’s going to give up.

As both Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal Kotick is expected to leave its position as soon as the acquisition is officially completed. According to Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, it will probably be sometime in June 2023.

Kotick has long been a controversial figure in the gaming industry. Criticism of him, however, escalated sharply last year, after Activision Blizzard became sued for terrible working conditions.

In the wake of the lawsuit, it was alleged that Kotick was aware of the allegations about both harassment and gender discrimination. Instead of cleaning up, he allegedly covered several of the cases instead.

Activision Blizzard employees – who have been in contact with Bloomberg-journalist Jason Schreier – says on Wednesday that they are optimistic about changes at the company. Many are still frustrated that Kotick will probably get a large severance package as part of the agreement.
