Bobby Dismisses Medan Public Works Officials Due to Floods in 1 Hour Just Receding!

Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, removed Abidin from the position of Head of Operational, Road Maintenance and Drainage (OPJD) Department of Public Works (PU) for the Medan City area. He was removed because he was incompetent to take care of the drainage.

“It is true that the head of the UPT has been removed. This is intended to be a refresher. We want officials who can work well, quickly and effectively. This is also a lesson for other officials to take their work seriously and not play games. concern overcome the problem of flooding, so my officials should not be careless. You have to work hard, quickly and effectively for the community,” Bobby Nasution told reporters, Wednesday (11/3/2021).

Abidin has been removed since Monday (1/11). Bobby admitted that he was disappointed with the performance of his subordinates.

Bobby said the removal was carried out after he visited the victims of a tornado in Binjai Village, Medan Denai, Saturday (30/10) at midnight. At that time, Bobby said he saw puddles due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

He saw that the water could not enter the drainage. He then ordered his staff to check the cause of the puddle.

After checking, it turned out that there was a problem in the drainage connecting the sub-districts of Medan Denai, Medan Area, and Medan Kota. As a result, the new flood receded after 1 hour. Bobby said he called Abidin that night and immediately removed Abidin.

Plt Kadis PU, Ferry Ichsan, also confirmed this. Ferry said the position vacated by Abidin would be filled by Plt.

“Yesterday, Mr. Wali visited the residents in Binjai Village. He also checked the drainage. Then Mr. Wali called the head of the UPT, he came a little late. Drainage also had problems in his area. So it was removed,” said Ferry.

Ferry said his party was ready to carry out all of Bobby’s instructions. Especially, he said, related to improvements to prevent flooding in Medan.

“So the drainage problem at the Medan City UPT has been checked and analyzed, because the guardian’s direction is also so that our work is effective. God willing, we will fix the 2022 budget,” he concluded.
