Universal Music Group (UMG) owns the rights to five albums recorded between 1973 and 1977 by Island records, a New York court ruled.
Judge Dennis Cote ruled that the records were owned by UMG, which is the parent company of Island Records.
The lawsuit was filed by Bob Marley’s widow and widow against UMG for millions of dollars in damages.
Bob Marley’s family accused the company of deliberately refusing to pay royalties to their company Fifty-Six Hope Road Music, and of failing to consult them on some key decisions, including the use of Bob Marley’s music for GSM melodies.
