In 1962, while still a 21-year-old folk singer, Robert Allen Zimmerman changed his name to Bob Dylan. Not as a stage name, but officially: his children are not called Zimmerman, but Dylan. There has always been much speculation about why he did that at the time, and Dylan himself never gave a clear explanation.
