Boateng convicted of assault – forced to pay millions in damages

Former Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng, who recently signed for Lyon, was part of a trial in Munich, Germany on Thursday. The 33-year-old was charged for intentionally causing bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has two children, in connection with a conflict during a holiday in 2018. Boateng, in turn, denied himself a crime.

Several media outlets, including the news agency AFP and the German newspaper Bild, are now reporting that Boateng is sentenced to pay 1.8 million euros, just over 18 million kronor in damages to the ex-partner. Boateng risked five years in prison, but escaped.

Boateng currently has a contract with Lyon until the summer of 2023. He has had a successful career with games in Bayern Munich and Manchester City, among others.
