Since 1982, this authentic aircraft carrier has been transformed into a museum, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, New York’s navy, air and space museum. This unique museum in the world is one of the attractions that attracts the most tourists to New York: the museum claims more than a million visitors per year!
And the aircraft carrier Intreprid is a real veteran: the ship was used during World War II and then during the Vietnam War. He ended his career in the service of NASA, as a ship in charge of the recovery of the Gemini and Mercury capsules, during the space conquest.

After passing the entrance, you will advance on the quay and board by a footbridge. I advise you to head straight away to the flight deck, the emblematic place of an aircraft carrier. There you will be able to see the catapult system up close and an alignment of around thirty prestigious fighter jets, from the Lockheed A-12 spy plane to the French Super-Étendard, the ancestor of the Rafale. As a bonus, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Midtown skyline and the Empire State building. Do not miss the Concorde either, displayed on the quay.
Aboard the aircraft carrier, then lose yourself in the passageways and decks, where you’ll see other planes and a comprehensive exhibit on the history of the USS Intreprid. Then go up to the bridge, where you can take yourself for the commander. Cast off !
