On Saturday night, former US President Barack Obama shares a longer one posts on Instagram. It turns out that the family has lost their dog Bo, the former first dog of the United States.
The dog moved into the White House in 2009, and belongs to the breed Portuguese Water Dog. Obama describes the dog as “a true friend and a loyal companion.”
– Will miss him
“For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives – happy to see us on our good days, our bad days and every day in between,” the post states.
Obama writes that the dog tolerated all the fuss that came with being in the White House. Stay was just what the family needed and more than they could ever wish for.
“We will miss him very much,” Obama wrote.
Was cancerous
Also, former First Lady Michelle Obama remembers the dog on Instagram. She writes that the family has said goodbye to the dog after a battle with cancer.
– During the election campaign in 2008, we promised our daughters that we would get a dog after the election. At that time, Bo was to be a companion for our daughters. We had no idea how much he would mean to us, writes Michelle Obama.
The post is written by Michelle, Barack, Malia, Sasha and Sunny. The latter is the family’s second dog, which they acquired in 2013. Sunny is a bitch of the same breed.
A gift for the family
Born in Texas, Bo was a gift to the Obama family from Senator Ted Kennedy and his wife.
Bo was given away because he did not get along with the dogs the Kennedy family had before. Ted Kennedy and his wife Victoria had two dogs from Bo’s breeder and got a third dog from the same litter as Bo.
It was they who thought Bo would be perfect for the Obama daughters, who were promised a dog when their father ran for president. It got its name Bo because Michelle Obama’s father was named Diddley (hence Bo Diddley). They also have a cousin with a cat named Bo.
