BNNVARA says it respects Van Nieuwkerk’s decision to leave. “An expression of regret from Matthijs was and we consider essential, which includes an acknowledgment that the boundaries of (former) colleagues have been crossed,” says the broadcaster. “In our mission – to provide a safe working environment for all our colleagues – we are emphatically taking into account the developments of the past period. We must and will do better.”
Collaboration “impossible”
Van Nieuwkerk was discredited after de Volkskrant published an extensive study of the behind-the-scenes work culture of De Wereld Draait Door. According to dozens of de Volkskrant employees, this resulted in “extreme outbursts of anger and public humiliation.” Van Nieuwkerk temporarily interrupts his work and cuts off all ties with the broadcaster. “The fact that my employer openly doubts my sincerity makes further cooperation impossible.”
His collaboration with the broadcaster NTR is not yet clear. NTR ‘must consult’ with both the television producer and the NPO, said a spokesman for the station.
Shooting day cancelled
NTR is making various TV shows around the Top 2000 with Van Nieuwkerk. It is not yet clear whether they will be made again this year. The NTR decided on Saturday that it would not allow the second day of taping of the Top 2000 Quiz to take place. The photos were taken on Friday. Filming days for Top 2000 à Go-Go are scheduled for next month.
