In September, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) performed 1,800 Internet quality measurements in 120 settlements in Latvia. The average download speed in September in the networks of all three mobile operators exceeded 30 Mbit / s, informs PUC.
The average download speed observed last month was in line with what is needed to stream even very high quality HD video. Summarizing the results of random measurements in September, the download speed in the network of each operator at more than 50% of the measurement sites was observed in the range from 30 to 100 Mbit / s, which can be assessed as a very high indicator.
“Measurement results may differ at different times of the day. Early before the start of the work day or at night, internet speeds may be higher than on weekends or in the evening when it is used more intensively. We have also noticed from our measurements that the internet speed is different or not available near a few meters away, »says Elmārs Lipenbergs, Head of the Electronic Communications Service Quality Department.
Serial measurements performed by PUC 24 hours a week were performed in the previous month in three Latvian cities – Lubāna, Nīca and Rīga. In a series of measurements carried out in September, the maximum download speed reached 117 Mbit / s, which was observed in Nice.
Download speeds can vary from day to day and can sometimes drop significantly during heavy traffic. These measurements make it possible to assess the dynamics of changes in quality indicators and whether the Internet speed at different times of the day is sufficient for the use of various services, such as video streaming or video calling.
