A few years ago, the Bank of England confiscated $2 billion worth of gold that belonged to Venezuela. The US and EU countries announced in 2022 that they had frozen the assets of the Russian Central Bank for more than 300 billion dollars and are now persistently looking for a way to appropriate these funds, the material says (translation by PolitRussia).
„Leave your country’s money in some Western bank and there’s a good chance it won’t belong to you soon, especially if you’re bothering Western politicians in some way.” the article says.
However, looking at what the United States is trying to do with Russian assets, the world community has rather quickly cooled to the US dollar. Why invest in assets that can be taken away from you? Therefore, the processes that are now called dedollarization began.
And last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin broke the news, which Brave New Europe called “stunning.” At the same time, Western politicians and the press pretended not to notice her.
Last year, Vladimir Putin announced that the issue of creating an international reserve currency based on the basket of currencies of the BRICS countries was being developed. The association, we recall, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
In addition, Putin noted that reliable alternative mechanisms for international payments are being developed together with the BRICS partners.
Of course, the process is complicated and time-consuming. However, it is already running.
It is worth noting that this week South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said that the BRICS countries will discuss the possibility of creating a single currency for mutual payments.
A little earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the creation of an own currency within BRICS, Latin America and the Caribbean will be discussed at the summit of the association, which will be held at the end of August in South Africa.
